Discovery

The project was combining two of my deepest passions, making an impact that matters and creating a visionary product that will be used by millions.
Starting off by interviewing individuals and sustainable oriented companies to examine consuming and recycle habits and discover possible opportunities. These where the main findings:

Waste begins with design

Current design decisions do not reflect a holistic approach to product lifecycle and its impact.

How might we create responsibility for the whole product lifecycle?

Designed to Fail

The way products and services are designed dictates the way the user interacts with them.

How might we Incentivize companies to design with consciousness

Lack of empathy

We are disconnected from each other and from our surroundings.

How might we create empathy towards sustainability.

Create responsibility for the
whole product lifecycle

Addressing two crucial touch points

  • 1
    Product idea
  • 2
    Design product
  • 3
    Material selection
  • 4
    Material order
  • 5
    Production
  • 6
    Life cycle

Target users

As waste starts with design, the focus was on the design phase, a transparent material management and the disposal phase.

Empowering a more sustainable product design.

The concept is system connecting waste management and suppliers to product designers that will gives full transparency about available resources and their sustainability impact which will encourage more sustainable decisions all across the production-chain The chosen materials will be projected by a special device for the designers to touch and feel.

Choosing materials

Designers will be able to choose, test and compare materials according to their product needs and environment impact towards conscious decisions.

Searching material by
texture and shape

Using sustainable materials creates more sustainable products, balancing the company’s needs, product efficiency and responsable environmental impact.

Material durabilty predictions

The designer will be able to test and see the effect on the chosen material by natural environment and through time.

Company
sustainable score

Companies will be cautious about their impact on the environment by having a global sustain score summing all its material stats used across their different products and ways to improve that score.

Designing a sustainable product

Using sustainable materials creating sustainable products balancing the company needs, product efficiency and responsable environmental impact.

Collaboration in production

Multiple design teams as different departments within the production chain will be able to work together and be updated on the product progress.

Let’s design a
better future

The outcome would be to facilitate sustainable decisions, helping designers make informed decisions that eliminates inefficiencies and material waste and overall establishing a holistic, circular economy that will allow better life for future generations.

Where to next?
